Preparing to Celebrate the Greatest Event in History
Volneybiblechurch

It’s Holy Week. This week we celebrate the greatest event in human history.  Before the death of Jesus, all mankind was lost in sin and headed for an eternity in Hell, separated from a holy God, forever. Also, sin had completely marred the beautiful creation that God had fashioned in the beginning. Sickness, disease and death entered the cosmos and suffering has abounded ever since.

But with the entrance of the Son of God into this mess, hope was born. Through faith in Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection to take away our sins, there is now the promise of a new beginning. Acceptance of Christ as your Savior makes you a new creature, a new creation in which you are now a son or daughter of the living God (II Corinthians 5:17; I John 3:1).

And one day there will be a New Heaven and a New Earth in which righteousness dwells.  In them, we will experience no more mourning or crying or pain, because the old order of things has passed away (Revelation 21:1-4).

Our Lord Jesus Christ changed history so much that we now separate it into B.C. (Before Christ) and A.D. (Anno Domini, meaning: ‘In the Year of Our Lord’). And yet to many the significance of this holiday celebration is lost. Many parents teach their kids about the Easter Bunny, Easter egg hunts, and baskets full of candy. But how many of those same people take their kids to church to worship the One who left behind an empty tomb to prove that He was who He claimed to be, the only begotten Son of God who came to provide salvation to all who would call upon His name?

Let us stop this week and remember the event that divided history in half and has forever changed the destiny of mankind. May we never take our Lord for granted, nor what He accomplished on that blessed Easter morning. Come, let us worship the risen Savior of the world! For He alone is worthy of our praise!!
